The expression ‘air conditioning’ is somewhat misused and is commonly a reference to the process of comfort cooling, which is solely a means of preventing the dry bulb temperature of occupied spaces from becoming uncomfortably warm. Air conditioning might be more accurately described as a combination of at least two functions designed to control the condition of air within a space such as a room or building. The nature of the condition to be attained will be dependent upon the purpose of the space and might involve; heating, cooling, ventilation, filtration, humidification and/or dehumidification.
